Grandmother’s Prayer for August 19th

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, this morning I want to be a quiet sheep at Your standing-place. The feeding is Yours. The standing is Yours. The strength is Yours. My job is to be still long enough to be fed. The day has not yet started. The morning is simple. I am at the table with the Bible open and a cup of coffee. The Shepherd is here, standing in Your strength, ready to feed me whatever the day needs. Lord Jesus, feed me from the verse this morning. Not a complicated theology. The plain food. The fact that You stand. The fact that You have Your Father's strength behind You. The fact that I am one of Your sheep, still on the list, still being fed. Make this morning the unhurried feeding the verse describes. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
