Grandmother’s Prayer for July 28th

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, I come to You this morning with an honest heart. Your Word says that Your servant Asaph called himself foolish and ignorant, like a beast before You. I understand that. At my age, I want to make my past look softer than it was. I want to forget the harsh words I spoke to my children when they were small. I want to hide the times I judged others while my own life was full of trouble. Lord, I have done beast-like things. Getting older does not erase them. Grey hair does not wash them away. I was foolish. I was ignorant. I sinned against You and against people I love. I ask You now for clean forgiveness. Not the kind that hides the truth. The plain kind that names the sin and trusts the cross. You have been ready to forgive me for years. I receive that forgiveness today. Help me get up from this prayer and go on with my morning, unburdened. In Jesus' name, Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
