Grandmother’s Prayer for July 25th
A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, Joseph left his garment in her hand and ran. He did not stop to talk. He did not see how close he could get to the fire. He just ran. I respect that. At my age, the temptations are different. It is not the same fight Joseph had. It is the fight to hold on to a bitter thought. It is the fight to keep picking at an old hurt. It is the fight to replay the same sad story in my mind again and again. Father, I have been around long enough to know I cannot stand near these fires. I have to leave the garment and run even if it looks foolish. Even if it means I do not get the last word. Running is the right move. Lord Jesus, give me Joseph's lack of negotiation. Not a slow, proud exit. Just a simple turning and walking out of the room. When the bitter talk starts on the phone, help me hang up gently. When the bad thought begins to circle, help me close the Bible to a psalm and read it out loud. When the old hurt shows up again, help me get up and walk to a different room. Help me leave the garment and go. Amen.

- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
