Grandmothers
Grandmother’s Prayer for July 8th
A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Lord, where has my strength come from all these years?
Not from this body. It has worn out.Not from a sharp mind. That has grown weak. Not from the energy I once had when my grandchildren filled my kitchen.
The strength has been in the small things no one saw.The Bible opened each morning. The confession I spoke out loud. The small gift I gave on Sunday, even when money was tight. The promise I kept to a friend.
I am not afraid of telling my secret to an enemy.I am afraid of forgetting where the strength really came from.I am afraid I will try to find it in pride,or in the memory of younger days,or in pretending I am fine.
Remind me again this morning. The strength is not in me.It is in You.It has been hidden in the small obediences I almost skipped.
Keep me faithful in those small things.Hold Your power in me by Your grace, not by my grip.
Amen.

- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
