Grandmother’s Prayer for July 1st

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, the heat is already on the porch this morning. My knees are slower. My breath is shorter on the stairs. The outward weather has done its work on this body.

But You promised a stream that does not dry up in summer or in winter. That word stayed with me through hard years and loss. It stays with me now when the days feel too long. Inside, that stream has not failed me yet.

Keep it running today. Keep my speech kind to the neighbor with the loud lawnmower. Keep my mind on my grandchildren by name instead of headlines. Keep the small habits that have held me close to You — the open Bible at the kitchen window, the prayer list under the magnet on the fridge.

I do not need a new revelation. I need the old stream to keep coming. Send some of it through me to my family today.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.

Verses to pray

Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.

  1. It will happen in that day that living waters will go out from Jerusalem, half of them toward the eastern sea, and half of them toward the western sea. It will be so in summer and in winter.
    Zechariah 14:8
