Grandmother’s Prayer for June 30th

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, that the world may know that You have sent me, and have loved them, as You have loved me. John 17:23.

Father, this verse has a phrase that always stops me. You have loved Your people as You have loved Your Son. The verse says it plainly. It is the same kind of love.

I do not understand how that can be. I do not need to. I receive it.

The love that has held Your Son from before the world began is the same love that holds me, in this kitchen, on the last day of June.

I pray the world would see that love in my life, even in small ways. But first, Lord, let me know it for myself. Let it be settled deep in my heart.

That love has held the first six months of this year. The next six months will be held by it too.

Let me close June with this truth at rest in me, and walk into July as a daughter who has been loved as Your Son has been loved.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
