Grandmother’s Prayer for June 24th
A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, Your Word says His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6. I have lived long enough to need every one of those names. Wonderful, when I am astonished by a kindness I did not deserve. Counsellor, when I am uncertain, and You speak through Scripture or through a friend You sent. Mighty God, when the trouble is bigger than I am and only You are bigger than the trouble. Everlasting Father, when I am old enough to know that You have never once let go. Prince of Peace, when You calm a room that should be falling apart. Those five names are not decoration. They are who Your Son is. Let me call on each one today as I need them. Wonderful when I am surprised. Counsellor, when I am uncertain. Mighty God, when I am small. Everlasting Father, when I am tired. Prince of Peace, when I am restless. You have been enough for Your people for years beyond counting, and You are enough for me today. Amen.
