Grandmothers
Grandmother’s Prayer for June 23rd
A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, You are the potter, and I am the clay. That old verse from Isaiah still makes my hands go quiet. The clay does not tell the potter what to do. You know what You are making. You know what this vessel is for.
I have been on the wheel a long time now. The shape is mostly set. But You still smooth the rough places I did not even see. The making is not done yet. It will be finished in glory, when I am what You planned from the start.
Help me be quiet under Your hand today. Help me not to pull away toward my own plan. Your hands are kind. Your plans are better than anything I could dream up for myself.
Let me stay on the wheel as long as You want me there. I trust the One who has been shaping me since before I knew I was being made.
Amen.
