Grandmothers
Grandmother’s Prayer for June 18th
A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Psalm 51:10.
Father, this is David's prayer after his great sin. It is my prayer too, after all these years. I have never grown out of needing it.
In some seasons, my heart has been cleaner. Some weeks my spirit has been more right. But the need is always the same. And You are still the same.
Create. Renew.
You are the God who made the world from nothing. Only You can make a new heart in me. That is the kind of work I need today.
The sharp words I have said. The worry I have held onto. The pride I have not let go. The grudges I have kept instead of releasing. The small, quiet sins no one sees but You.
Let Your creation go on in me. Let Your renewing be the way my mornings start.
A clean heart is not a prize I won long ago. It is what happens when I keep giving my heart back to You.
I give it back to You now.
Amen.
