Grandmother’s Prayer for June 13th

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, the children of Israel pitched their tents around Your tabernacle, each tribe in its own place, each near its own banner. Numbers 1:52. I have my own small life to pitch today. The tasks. The conversations. The prayers. The quiet morning. The names I bring before You. Let them all be arranged with You at the center, the way the tribes arranged themselves around the place where You dwelt. The order is not random. It is by Your design. My banner is the small banner of my own household, the plain work You have given me to do. Let me pitch my tent today in the right place, close to You. Not so far that I forget where the center is. Being near You is what makes the day make sense. I am under the banner of Your Son, and His people are going somewhere together. Let me stay close to You and to them. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
