Grandmother’s Prayer for June 10th

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, this verse is from Jesus’ prayer for His own. He told You that the disciples had received His words and knew He had come from You. He spoke of them the way a teacher speaks of students who have truly learned. I want to be in that report too. I have received His words. I have known, through many years and many days, that He came from You. The receiving has taken a long time. The knowing has grown into something steady that I do not have to prove each morning again. Let the report stand for me. Let Jesus name me as one who received and knew. Let the receiving go on today as I read the next chapter. Let the knowing grow deeper as I use it. The disciples in the verse were the first in a long line. I am one of the latter ones in that same line. The line goes on with the grandchildren, with believers not yet born, with everyone the Spirit will bring in. The line is steady. The receiving is real. The knowing is Your gift. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
