Grandmothers
Grandmother’s Prayer for June 9th
A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, You have done great things for me, and my heart is glad. I am not in exile. I am right here in my small kitchen, in my small town, in my small church. But the great things You have done in my life have not been small at all. You brought me back from the wrong direction. You kept me through hard years. You gave me friends at just the right time. You gave me a marriage that lasted as long as it was meant to last. And when it was over, You carried me through the widowhood that followed. None of these things is little. So let me be glad this morning. Not because everything is perfect right now , but because when I look back, Your kindness is everywhere. The great things have been done. That is not in question. Gladness is the only honest answer. Let me give it to You right here, in this prayer, and in the small smile this quiet morning brings. Amen.
