Grandmothers
Grandmother’s Prayer for May 18th
A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, Jesus said, 'I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.' That is such a simple picture, and it is true. You are the door. I come in to pray. I go out to do the day's work. And on the other side, You give me rest and everything I need.
I do not need another door. There is no other door. And I do not need to be ashamed that I come to You so many times a day. Your people have used this door for thousands of years, and it is still strong. It has not worn out.
Let me use the door again this morning. This prayer is one walk through it. Reading Your Word is another. Even the phone call I am about to make can be through that same door, because You are with me in it.
You are the door. You are the path. You are the pasture. All at once. Help me move through this day inside that truth, not looking for another way in.
Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
