Grandmother’s Prayer for May 15th

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, for the Lord shall comfort Zion: He will comfort all her waste places; and He will make her wilderness like Eden. Isaiah 51:3.

Father, You promised to make waste places like Eden. I am holding that promise over the dry places in my life right now. There is a relationship that has gone dry. There is a corner of my church family that has been empty and wasted for a few years. There is a patch of my own soul where I keep watering with the wrong things, and nothing good will grow.

You can make any of those, like Eden. This is not just a nice idea. It is what You do. Comfort the waste places, Father, in the people I love and in this house. The garden was Yours to start. It will be Yours to finish. The wilderness in between was not the last word at the beginning, and it is not the last word now.

Give me the patience of someone who knows the Gardener and trusts His timing. The dry places I have prayed over will yet bloom. The next chapter is Yours to write.

Amen.

  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
