Grandmothers
Grandmother’s Prayer for May 14th
A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, surely the Lord is in this place; and I knew it not. Genesis 28:16.
Father, Jacob said that when he woke up and found God in a place he did not expect. He had missed Your presence at first.
I have missed it too. On many ordinary mornings, I have not seen You here.
This kitchen. This chair. This quiet hour. You are here, and I have not always known it.
Today I do know it. I do not need a vision or a stairway full of angels. I only need the quiet honesty of someone who has been seeking Your face long enough to know when she is in it.
Surely the Lord is in this place.
Let me not forget that You are here for the rest of this day. Let me act like a woman who knows she is not alone.
Jacob set up a stone to remember. I will set up no stone. I will just live this day aware of You.
Amen.
