Grandmothers
Grandmother’s Prayer for May 12th
A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father,
Your word asks who can be taught and who can understand. Isaiah 28:9.
You teach those who are willing to learn a little at a time. Line upon line. One truth today. Another tomorrow. A new thought when a friend speaks. None of it is loud. All of it is real.
That is how You have taught me. Not all at once. But slowly. Day by day.
Teach me again today. I am still teachable. I do not know everything. I have not arrived. There are places in Your word I thought I knew. Now I see more. The more I use it, the more I understand.
Use the small things. A verse in the morning. A prayer at the sink. A truth lived out in the car. A kind word at the doctor's office. Let the teaching go on.
I am old, but I have time to listen today.
Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
