Grandmothers
Grandmother’s Prayer for May 11th
A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, You told Your people to stand still and watch You save them. The sea was in front of them. The enemy was behind them. They could not fix it. They could not run from it. So they stood still and let You fight.
I need that same word today. There are things in my life I want to fix. People I want to call. Problems I want to solve with my own hands. But You are asking me to stand still. To watch for what You will do. To trust that Your hand is at work even when I cannot see it.
For most of my life, doing the right thing was the right thing. I worked. I helped. I carried what needed to be carried. That was good. But now much of the work is in waiting. In the standing still. In the trusting.
Teach me to stand. Teach me to look to You. Teach me to wait for the salvation only You bring.
The things that scare me are not as fast as they seem. You are already at work. You are doing what I cannot do. Let me trust the Lord who is doing the real work.
Amen.

- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
