Grandmothers
Grandmother’s Prayer for May 8th
A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come—job 14:14.
Father, this verse is Job's, but it has settled into my heart. The appointed time is mine. You set it. I do not need to make it shorter or longer. The waiting is also mine, and the waiting can be patient now in a way it could not be when I was younger.
The change Job names is the resurrection change, the great renewal when You will make all things new. Until then, the waiting.
I wait differently at this age than I did at thirty. The waiting is not full of urgent plans. It is full of the small dailies that get done because they are still mine to do. The dishes. The cards. The errands. The prayers. None of them is filler. All of them are part of this life You have given me.
The change will come when You bring it. I am not impatient. I am also not pretending. Let me wait through this day with steady patience, knowing both the One I am waiting for and the change He has promised.
Amen.
