Grandmothers
Grandmother’s Prayer for May 2nd
A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, the secret of the Lord belongs to those who fear Him. He makes His covenant known to them. Psalm 25:14.
Father, this verse tells me something true. You share Yourself with people who take You seriously. You show them Your covenant. You show them Your promises.
I have been on the inside of that sharing for a long time. Not because I earned it. Not because I happened to be in the right place. But because You chose to draw me in. You chose to make Yourself known to me.
You showed me Your covenant through the Scriptures. Through faithful preachers. Through believers older than me who lived it out before I had words for it. They modeled what it looks like to trust You.
Now I am the older believer. And the showing has not stopped. You are still making Yourself known.
The secret is not gossip. It is not a hidden code. It is You, slowly and quietly, showing me who You are and what You have promised.
Let me sit inside that secret today. Let me not act like I am on the outside, pounding on a locked door. The door is open. The conversation is still going on. You are showing me Your covenant again in the chapter I am about to read.
I am one of those who fear You. Not because I am strong, but because You are kind. And this verse belongs to me.
Amen.
