Grandmother’s Prayer for April 29th

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, this is my comfort in my affliction: for Your word has made me alive. Psalm 119:50.

Father, the psalmist says it plainly. Your word gave him life. You have done that for me, too. In the long week after the funeral, Your word made me alive. In the slow days after surgery, Your word made me alive. Now, as my body wears down and my circle of friends grows thin, Your word keeps giving me life, slowly, in just the right measure.

This verse does not promise the hurt will go away. It promises You will give comfort through Your word. I have known that for years. I take it again this morning.

The chapter open before me is Your supply. The verse I land on today is the comfort I need for this day. Quicken me again. Make this old soul alive enough for what today will ask of me. Your word has done it before. Your word will do it again.

Let me be quiet enough to receive it.

Amen.
