Grandmother’s Prayer for April 26th

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, how excellent is Your lovingkindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings. - Psalm 36:7.

Father, Your lovingkindness is more than love. It is steady and faithful, and it does not run out. The shadow of Your wings is a place for trust, and we come into it because Your kindness invites us.

I have been in that shadow for a long time. I have been there in the bright seasons when the shade kept me from the heat. I have been there in the cold seasons when the wings covered me from worse weather. The wings have not pulled back. The shadow has not moved.

Let me sit under them again this morning. Let me bring the people I love with me, the only way I can, by praying for them. There is room under Your wings. There is enough of Your lovingkindness for the grandchild whose name I am saying right now and for the friends whose names I will say next.

All of us under the wings. All of us safe in the lovingkindness that is excellent enough to cover us all.

Amen.
