Grandmother’s Prayer for April 24th

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Your word is my meditation all the day. That is what the psalm says, and it is becoming true in me. At first, I could not say it. Now, the verse I read in the morning comes back to me when the news is bad. A line someone shared with me last week returns when I am about to be impatient. I do not have to force it. It rises on its own, like a quiet hum underneath the day. Teach me to love Your word more. Not because I must, but because it has been my food for so long. Let that love grow in me today. Let it be as steady and as near as breathing. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
