Grandmothers
Grandmother’s Prayer for April 23rd
A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. John 16:33.
Father, I come to You in my quiet kitchen this morning. The house is still. The news is hard. The world I am old enough to see clearly is not getting nicer. The trouble in it is real.
But You said to be of good cheer. Not because the trouble is gone. Because You have already overcome the world. You saw it as finished before the cross was even done. You spoke from inside the victory.
I take that same tone this morning. The overcoming is real. You did it. Your word does not change because this week is hard.
So I choose cheer. Not put-on cheer. The steady cheer of someone who knows who has overcome the world. I am content to live inside Your victory.
Let me obey You with a real and quiet heart.
Amen.
