Grandmother’s Prayer for April 19th
A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, I love You, Lord, because You have heard my voice. Psalm 116:1. Father, I do not love You just because I feel like it. I love You because You listened. You answered. Over my whole life, I can look back and see it. Some prayers You answered just the way I asked. Some You answered in better ways than I dreamed. And some, You said no to, and later I saw that no was mercy. All of it adds up to one thing: You hear me. So today I love You because of what You have done. I do not have to work up this love. It grows on its own, the way an old tree grows roots deep in the ground, quiet and slow, in the soil of all You have already done. Let me sit in that love this morning. Let me not try to perform or prove anything. Just let it grow. Amen.
