Grandmother’s Prayer for April 17th

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, You promised that You will not turn away everyone who comes to You. That is one of the truest things You ever said. I have come to You so many times. I have come with mixed motives. I have come with selfish reasons tangled up in the good ones. And You have never turned me away. You said You would not, and You have kept that word all these years. I am coming again this morning. I do not come because I am clean enough. I come because You said to come. Let me rest in that today. The small voice that says I have let You down too many times does not get the last word. You get the last word. And Your word is that You will not turn me away. The hours ahead are held inside that promise. The people I will love today, I will love from the safety of that promise. Let Your old, quiet word do its work in me again today.

Amen.

  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
