Grandmothers
Grandmother’s Prayer for April 10th
A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, Your Son cried out from the cross, 'My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?' He was quoting Psalm 22. He carried a forsakenness I will never have to know because He bore it for me.
He bore it so that Your promise in Hebrews could be true for me: 'I will never leave you. I will never forsake you.'
The Son was forsaken so that I, Your daughter, would not be.
This truth is so old and so familiar that sometimes I treat it like a fact in a book. But it was a real event. The dark hour was real. The cross was real. The forsakenness was real. And the resurrection that ended it was real.
The promise that holds me this morning was bought there.
Let me sit with that for a moment before I do anything else today. Let the weight of it turn into thanks.
The forsakenness was His. The not-being-forsaken is mine, because of Him.
This day is mine to live as a daughter who was kept by a Son who was given.
Amen.
