Grandmother’s Prayer for April 6th

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, I come to You with Hezekiah's prayer from Isaiah 38:14. He cried out from his sickbed, Undertake for me. I am not facing what he faced. And yet some mornings I am tired, and the small worries feel too big. So I pray those same words. Undertake for me. Take charge of what I cannot carry. The appointment this afternoon. The conversation tomorrow, I do not know how to start. The person I love who is drifting, and I cannot pull them back alone. Undertake for me in each of these. You heard Hezekiah. Hear me now. I am not asking for more years. I am asking for the same God to take up the small troubles of this morning, in Your quiet way, and let me rest in Your care. Two words. They are enough when I speak them to You. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
