Grandmothers
Grandmother’s Prayer for April 3rd
A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, keep me from presumptuous sins. Let them not have dominion over me. Psalm 19:13.
The verse names a kind of sin that does not always look like sin. The willful kind. The bold kind. The kind that knows it is wrong and goes ahead anyway.
I have to be careful. These sins have not left with my youth. They have only changed address.
Keep me from judging the young from my high seat. Keep me from skipping the slow obedience because I think I have done my share. Keep me from treating my opinions as Your opinions.
Each of these would rule me if I let them. Keep them back, Father. Stop the small steps before they grow. The Spirit knows where they are heading before I do. Let Him turn me away in the small turns of the day.
Then I can stand upright, not by my strength, but by Your keeping.
Amen.
