Grandmothers
Grandmother’s Prayer for April 2nd
A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, David encouraged himself in the Lord his God. His city was gone. His people were angry. He was alone. But he did not look inside himself for strength. He looked to You.
I have had mornings like that, too. The house is quiet. The phone does not ring. No one brings a card. I am left with You and the silence.
Help me do what David did. Not to pretend the small things are big. Not puff myself up with lies. Just turn to who You are.
You are the Lord my God. You are the same one David ran to. Your promises are still in the same book. Your character has not changed.
If no one else encourages me today, let me encourage myself in You. Let that be enough for this one day. And tomorrow, if it comes, I will turn again.
Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
Verses to pray
Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.
David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the souls of all the people were grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters; but David strengthened himself in Yahweh his God.
