Grandmother’s Prayer for March 29th
A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, Your Word says Naphtali is a hind let loose, giving goodly words. That is a strange and beautiful picture. A free deer who speaks well. The blessing was not about what he did. It was about how he spoke. That is an old woman's blessing. My to-do list is shorter now. But my speaking list does not have to be. The words I speak to the grandchild on the phone, to the cashier at the store, to the woman at church whose husband is dying, can be good words. They can carry freedom and warmth that do not depend on how busy I am. Let my words be goodly today. Not flattering. Not fake. Goodly. True. Kind. Let me be unhurried this morning. Let what I say to the people in my path be the kind of speech that blesses a home. This speech is Your gift. I receive it again before this day begins. Amen.
