Grandmother’s Prayer for March 15th

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Your Word says we can have joy in You through our Lord Jesus Christ, because through Him we have now received the atonement, the making-right that cost Jesus everything. That is not something to wait for tomorrow. It is in force this morning. It already covers the small failures I confessed to yesterday, and it will cover what I bring to You tonight when I fall short again. There is a joy like this that does not depend on how my body feels or what the day brings. My back can ache, and the joy can hold. The phone can ring with bad news, and the joy can hold. That joy is in You, through Christ, based on a finished work that does not wear off. Let me joy in You today. Not by working up a feeling, but by seeing the ground under my feet and being glad it is there. Now received, Your Word says. Now received, this new day says. Let now be the time the joy quietly does its work. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
