Grandmother’s Prayer for March 7th

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, David once asked You to speak straight to his own soul. He had every sign that You were with him, and still, he needed to hear it said to him. I am not ashamed to ask the same thing. Some mornings, the truths I have known for years feel like furniture in a room I am too tired to walk through. What I need is Your Voice, saying my name, saying I am Yours. Say it to me this morning, Father. Not to the whole world. Not to the church in general. To this one soul, in this one chair. I am Your salvation. Christ has done it. The matter is settled. That settledness is the ground under my feet. Once said, the sentence can hold for hours. It has held for years. Say it this morning anyway, and let me carry it through the week. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
