Grandmothers
Grandmother’s Prayer for February 25th
A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, Your word says it is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path. I have always loved that picture. A lamp, not a floodlight. It lights the next step, not the whole road. I cannot see the next bend. I never could, even when I thought I could. But the lamp gives enough light for the step right in front of me. And that has always been enough. I am not going to pretend I need more. Light my feet today. The bills on the table. The small choice about a doctor visit. The decision to call my sister or wait until tomorrow. Those things are not the whole path. The path is the longer story You are writing for me, the one that ends in the city You have prepared. The lamp does both jobs. It shows me the step, and it hints at the road. I do not need more light than the lamp gives. I only need to take the next step inside its glow. Then the next. Then the next. The lamp will keep moving with my feet. The path will stay a path because it is Yours. Amen.
