Grandmother’s Prayer for February 24th

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Your Word says that even though we have not seen You with our eyes, we love You. Peter wrote that to people who had never seen Jesus face to face, and yet they loved Him. I have not seen You either, but the loving is still happening. After all these years, it has settled into something steady. It is like the way I love this kitchen. It is like the way I love a quilt my grandmother made. No big show. No loud sign. Just the quiet knowing that You are the One my life is turned toward. You also promised joy that is full of glory. I will not say my joy is too big to put into words today. It is the everyday kind. But I believe the full joy is coming. It is waiting for the day You planned. Until then, the loving will do. The quiet joy will be enough. And the seeing will come in Your time, not mine. And the loving will keep growing all the while. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
