Grandmother’s Prayer for February 8th
A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak tenderly to her. - Hosea 2:14.
Father, this verse reads like a love letter to a wandering wife. The wilderness sounds harsh at first, but Your voice in it is tender. Your goal is to bring her back, not to punish her.
I have walked through wildernesses that felt like punishment at the time. Looking back, I can see You were speaking in them, if I had ears for it. The early years of widowhood. The illness in middle age. The friendships that grew thin. You were not silent in any of those rooms, even when I was too distracted to listen.
The wooing in this season is quieter now. There is less noise. The hours stretch wider. Your voice is more direct. Let me hear it. The Bridegroom is not annoyed with His slow bride. He is drawing her to Himself again.
Let me be open to Your voice this morning. Let me say yes again to the One I have known for so long.
Amen.
