Grandmother’s Prayer for January 28th

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, You said that when I ask in Jesus' name, You will give it to me. That promise still startles me. I keep trying to make it smaller than it is. I keep adding rules You did not add. That is not humility. That is just not trusting You. So today, as an old woman at my kitchen table, I ask. Give me patience at the doctor's office. Give me the right words for my friend who is facing hard news. Help me stop leaning on the news and start leaning on the Bible in front of me. Take care of my grandchild, whose marriage is shaky. Tend to them with Your kindness this week, even if they do not thank You. These are not too small for Your promise. Your promise is big enough for all of them. Let me ask like a child in her father's house. Let me stop overthinking and just come to You. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
