Grandmother’s Prayer for January 12th

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, I belong to Your Son before I belong to myself. That is not just a nice thought. It is the real order of my day.

Let me live like I believe that. The first phone call. The errand I do not want to run. The quiet hours I will spend in this house. All Yours. All under Your care.

I do not want to be the kind of older woman who keeps trying to take back her own life. That pull does not go away with age. It just gets quieter. Show me where it is hiding today.

And remind me that being Yours is rest, not insult. A horse that trusts its rider runs more freely than one that fights the bit. Let me run today the way You ask, even if it is only at a walk.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
