Grandmother’s Prayer for January 8th
A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, the verse You put in front of me today is a hard one. It says even the holy gifts of Your people carried sin. The high priest had to bear that weight. I would not have understood that when I was young. But I understand it now.
The church years I gave my best to had sin hiding in them. The Sunday school classes I taught had sin in them. The prayers I prayed for the people I loved had sin in them, too. If I am honest, some of that love wanted to be seen and praised.
I bring all of it to You through Your Son. He is my only mediator. He carries the sin hidden even in my best moments. Do not let me think my old service was clean enough on its own. But do not let me give up on it either.
The mercy that covered me in my busy years is the same mercy covering me now, in this quieter season. Receive what I offer You, with the sin taken away by His blood. Let me serve again today without needing praise I have not earned.
Amen.
