Grandmothers
Grandmothers Prayer for January 7th
A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Lord, I read Philippians 1:21 differently now than I did when I was younger. For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. Then it sounded brave. Now it sounds plain and true.
Most of my big fears about dying have slipped away.while I was busy with other things.I did not even notice them leave. What is left is a quiet readiness.for whatever comes next.
Help me not to turn these into dark thoughts.Help me not to dwell on what I cannot see.The living part is still the part I am doing today. There are people who need me here. There are dishes to wash. There is a card to write. There is a phone call to return. These small things are still Your work in my hands.
Let me live this day as Yours, and not as the leftover of someone else's plans.
And when the gain part comes,Let it be quiet.Let it not leave a heavy weight.for the people I love to carry.
Until then, this day will do.This day will absolutely do.
Amen.
