Dads
Dad’s Prayer for December 28th
A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, Your Word says I have been put to death with Christ, and yet I am alive. Not because of me, but because You live in me. The old me really did die at the cross.
But I still feel the old me come back. The old impatience. The old appetite. The old grudge against the same person. They show up like they never left.
Help me live this week as the new person You made me, even when the old habits are still loud. I am not trying to kill the old self on my own. I am asking You to live through me when I do not feel changed.
Lord Jesus, You live in me. Give me what I cannot make on my own. I do not have patience. I do not feel love. I cannot forgive by myself. Let these come from You.
Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
Verses to pray
Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.
I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. That life which I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself up for me.
Galatians 2:20
