Dads
Dad’s Prayer for December 22nd
A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, You said in Isaiah 41:10, “Fear not, for I am with You; be not dismayed, for I am Your God. Do not let me be afraid. Do not let me be discouraged. Because You are here.”
Christmas week makes the fears louder. The unfinished list. The relatives I am dreading. The money squeeze. The empty seats at the table where people I love used to sit.
Let me hold on to the reason. You are with me. Not in some far-off way. Right here. In the meal. In the gift exchange. In the conversation that goes sideways at dessert.
Lord Jesus, You are Immanuel — God with us. Be with me this week. Let the fear and the dismay loosen because You are here.
Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
