Dad's Prayer for December 21st

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, in 2 Samuel 23:5, You call Your covenant everlasting, ordered, and sure. Those are not words I use for my own life. My promises break. My plans fall apart. I do not know how things will turn out.

But Your covenant does not run out. Every part of it is firm. Nothing is made up as You go. And the result is not in danger. That is not me bragging about You. That is just who You are.

Let that steady me this week. I do not know what will happen with money. I do not know what my kid's future looks like. The slow worries pile up. But none of them can break Your promise.

Lord Jesus, You made this covenant with Your own life. Help me stand on it. Help me breathe easier tonight, knowing the one thing that will not fall apart is the one thing that matters most.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
