Dad’s Prayer for December 16th

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, You said in Matthew 11:28, “Come to Me, all You who are tired and carrying heavy loads, and I will give You rest.” That word is for me right now. This season is full. Work, school events, gifts to figure out, family plans to hold together. Most dads I know are running on empty.

Help me actually come to You. Not just say I am coming. Not just talk about being tired. Come. Put down the laptop for a few minutes. Sit in the car after work and take one breath before I walk inside. Tell You that I am carrying more than I want to admit. Ask You to take some of it.

Your rest is real. It does not mean the work goes away. It means I do not have to carry it alone. You help with the load. You do not pull me out of the work. You pull me out of doing it all by myself.

Lord Jesus, You said Your yoke is easy, and Your burden is light. Help me wear Your yoke instead of my own. The work this week is real. But the weight of it does not have to crush me.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
