Dads

Dad’s Prayer for December 10th

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Your Word says we will meet the Lord in the air and be with You forever. Not for a long time. Forever. That is the part that catches me.

The time I get with You now is short and small. But the real meeting will last forever.

This life is one small chapter, not the whole book. I feel that more as I get older. The friend I lost is not gone forever. The parent who is getting weaker is not at the end of the road. The kid I am worried about has a story that goes past what I can see.

Help me carry that forever into my Tuesday. Not to escape today, but to see it in a new way. The big crisis today is small next to forever. The good moment I almost missed is a small taste of what forever with You will be like.

Lord Jesus, You are coming back. We will be with You always. Let that truth hold my mood and my choices this week. Change how I see today by how I see forever.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
