Dad's Prayer for December 1st

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Psalm 74:17 says You made summer and winter. December is here. The cold is settling in. The days are short. The drives home are dark. Even the kids' moods seem to follow the weather. I am tempted to just grit my teeth and get through it.

But You made this season too. Winter is not a mistake. It is part of Your plan. There are things I can only learn when life slows down and the nights are long. Help me slow down on purpose. Help me put the phone down. Help me read more. Help me pray even when the day feels heavy.

Let me see December as a gift, not just a hurdle. The cold air, the early sunsets, the quiet evenings — let them all turn my heart toward You. Do not let me just coast.

Lord Jesus, You came to earth in the cold of winter. You know what it is like when the world feels dark and long. Walk with me this month. Help me find You in this season, not in spite of it, but right in the middle of it.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
