Dad’s Prayer for November 29th

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Your Word says in Leviticus 19 not to spread stories about others and not to hate them in my heart. I see how those two go hand in hand. When I hold someone in contempt, I start telling stories about them in my mind, and those stories make the contempt grow.

I have not been cruel to anyone out loud this month. But I have been running unkind stories in my head. The coworker who makes work hard. The relative who knows how to get under my skin. The friend who let me down. I replay each one, and every replay makes the bitterness sharper.

Lord, break those cycles. Help me catch myself when I am rehearsing a grievance and stop. Let me trade that story for a quick prayer for that person. I know the feelings may not vanish, but take the power out of the replay.

Jesus, You had every reason to speak against us, and You did not. Help me carry kindness in my mind, not just in my words.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
