Dads

Dad’s Prayer for November 23rd

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, 1 John 1:6 says if we say we have fellowship with You but walk in darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. That verse is clear. What I say and how I live have to match. I cannot claim to walk with You in the light while hiding in the dark.

I have small darknesses I do not always face. The browser tab I would not show my wife. The conversation at work I would not want my pastor to hear. The thoughts about a coworker I would never say out loud. These do not fit with claiming to walk with You.

Shine Your light on them. Not to crush me, but to free me. The dark places lose their power when they are brought into the open. Give me the courage to bring one of them to someone today. Let me confess it out loud to a person who can pray with me. Stop the quiet rot in my heart.

Lord Jesus, You are the light. Help me walk in that light, even when it means seeing what I would rather not see. Thank You that You meet me with grace when I come clean. Help me live in the truth.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
