Dad’s Prayer for November 22nd

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, I know the story of Jacob, who worked fourteen years for the woman he loved. No shortcuts. No complaints. Just long, plain work for something that mattered.

That is more like my life than I want to admit. My kids do not raise themselves in a few months. My marriage does not deepen on one trip. My career does not arrive with one break. My faith does not grow in one season.

Help me settle in for long work, not as a grind, but as the right way to do anything worth doing. Help me show up to my marriage tomorrow, and the day after that. Help me show up to my kids again, even when nothing seems to change. Help me show up to my own prayer life, slowly building something real.

Lord Jesus, You ran a long arc Yourself, all the way to the cross. Walk with me in the ordinary years of building the life You gave me. The years count, even when they feel slow.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
