Dad's Prayer for November 21st

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Your Word says not to grieve the Holy Spirit, the One who marks me as Yours. I have not always taken that seriously. I treat You like a force, not a person who can be hurt.

I grieve You in small ways. A sharp word to my wife. A grudge I hold at work. A desire I keep giving in to. None of these is a big crime, but each one hurts the One who lives in me.

Help me notice when I grieve You. Not with fear, but with care. The way I would notice if my own son were quietly hurt by something I said. You are closer than I admit, and You feel how I live.

Lord Jesus, You sent the Spirit to be with me. Help me not treat that gift carelessly. Let me walk today with You in mind, and gently turn back when I start to wander.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
