Dad’s Prayer for November 19th

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, help me stop wasting my words on fights that go nowhere. The online arguments. The dinner table debates. The small group talks that are really just about being right. I know I have opinions. But those fights do not build anything. They just make me angry.

Help me trade that time. Let the minutes I would spend arguing be minutes I spend praying for someone I love. Let the breath I use to prove a point be the breath I use to say something kind to the people at this table.

Lord Jesus, You knew when to walk away. Teach me to do the same. Help me spend my words on what actually grows.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
